New Site Layout

by | April 21, 2020

In the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic and with a little more time on my hands, I thought I’d share a small update regarding the look and feel of the website.

I have tweaked around with the site layout and fitted it to work in a much smoother and flowing way. It is less crunched up and it takes advantage of your browser window’s full width. When you go into mobile (or, if you’re cheap, make your desktop browser window incredibly small to simulate mobile), the layout works as well as the desktop. It is not as bad as the previous theme.

If you are looking for the social links that used to be in the side pane, they are now buttons in the navigation area at the top. Twitter, Paypal, The Wiki, Sitemap, and RSS/Atom feeds are all there.

Like before, each major realm (The Severis TalesThe World of Elineer) is colour-coded to match what I think are colours associated with each universe, as well as to give it some colour. The menus have also been redone and take significantly less space than before. The only thing in common, that I have to address, is the overly-sized round buttons for things like pagination and such. I HATE that.

EDIT: April 21, 2020 @ 4:50pm – I am also trying out some new tab options to present short stories where parts are necessary, such as those from The Severis Tales. For now, I am just testing on the latest story to see if it is an option to keep.

I am rather happy with how this small conversion turned out. I am still tweaking colours and turning knobs here and there to ensure the best fit. Hopefully this will stay that way for some time, and I can get to work on other important things, like writing and watching this stupid cold winter blow through April and into May…
